Although we have settled into the new term the closure of the Forth Bridge last week and the bad weather that followed did cause us some problems and so it is worth reminding everyone that information regarding the steps taken in the event of a school closure can be accessed via a link on the home page.
Education in Scotland continues to be a news item for a number of reasons not least the outcome of the ‘Governance Review’ which will have an impact on schools. My thanks to all parents who made a response to the review and to the Parent Council who also submitted a response. I have already had notice of additional funding to be provided directly to schools from Scottish Government and it will be important to make the best use of this additional resource.
The term ahead is a busy one and assessments for pupils sitting national exams are underway.
Mr Philip Black
I am delighted to confirm that we have secured a licence to perform ‘Billy Elliot the Musical’. We are the first school in Scotland to do so and four performances are planned from Tuesday 20th June to Friday 23rd June 2017.
‘Billy Elliot the Musical’ is the joyous celebration of one boy’s journey to make his dreams come true. The story is set against the backdrop of the 1984-85 miner’s strike and is considered by many to be one of the most bitter and divisive conflicts in twentieth century British social history.
The play contains a lot of strong language and according to the author: “the language used reflects a very specific culture and moment in time. Swearing in the play is often used to capture certain ‘rhythms’ and informality of speech and is not intended to cause offence.
The licence granted to us has strict conditions and we can only make very limited changes to the language used. However, where possible we intend to do so.
Although we are delighted to be able to perform such a prestigious show it will not suit everyone. Specifically, children under the age of 8 are not recommended to attend. It is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the acting ability of a number of our pupils and I would ask you to support the show and also to encourage your family and friends to do so.
Further details about the sale of tickets will follow.
All good wishes to you and your family for 2017 and thank you for your continued support.
